Mission
The
mission of the Washington Sinfonietta is to enrich the greater community we serve through quality symphonic and chamber music performances and community outreach activities.
History
The Washington Sinfonietta has established itself as one of the premiere chamber orchestras in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
The Orchestra began
in May 2006 when Rufus
Jones, Jr. was invited by Marcus Jordan to serve as an Artistic Partner of a new chamber orchestra he was forming.
Jordan’s aim to establish a permanent chamber
orchestra with outstanding performance capabilities
was realized at the first concert on August 19,
2006.
The
orchestra is administered by its musicians, Artistic Partners, and
Board of Directors who
include professional musicians from Washington, Boston, New York City, federal government employees, and community
members.
In partnership with its Artistic Partners and Principal Conductor Joel Lazar, the Sinfonietta seeks to enrich the greater community it serves through exceptional performances as well as educational programs and outreach activities. Since August 2006, the orchestra
has established its Board
of Directors, expanded its concert season to
include chamber ensemble performances and solo
performances featuring its members, and relocated
from the Georgetown University campus to the extraordinarily
beautiful Sanctuary at National
City Christian Church.
