Sinfonietta Concertmaster, Yumi Okada, Performs Massenet and Paganini |
Concertmaster of the Washington Sinfonietta since its inception in 2006, a native of Japan, Yumi Okada’s first rise to fame came when she won the highly acclaimed Soloist Competition of Japan in Tokyo and the All-Japan Performance Association Competition in Nagoya in 1998. Since then she’s won numerous other competitions around the world, including the 3rd prize in the International Chamber Ensemble Competition of New England in 2005 and 1st prize in Aichi Arts Foundation Competition in 2006 amongst others. Subsequently she earned a Performance Diploma at Indiana University, studying with the renowned Russian violinist Ilya Kaler, and received her Artist Diploma and Masters Degree at the Longy School of Music, studying with Malcolm Lowe, concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Okada juggles her artistic career between DC and Boston where she is also a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. In between her well orchestrated endeavors, she also finds time to impart her musical knowledge to aspiring musicians as a faculty member at the Concord Conservatory of Music and as a coach at the prestigious Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in Boston.
Internationally, Yumi Okada is still well-known in her home territory where she will be the exclusive solo violinist for the Osaka Arte Philharmonic Orchestra for the tenth consecutive year. |

The Washington Sinfonietta is proud to offer musicians for hire. By engaging a Sinfonietta soloist or ensemble for your wedding, party, or any other special occasion, you will be making your event a musical experience to be remembered!
Washington Sinfonietta musicians are experienced performers who offer an extensive, highly diverse collection of repertoire, from baroque and classical to pop and modern. A wide variety of instrumentation is available from solo work to quintets, composed of string instruments, winds, or both. Our members will tailor their program to match your needs. They can also make recommendations for music selections based on your event, and will gladly work with you to perform pieces upon request.
When you hire Washington Sinfonietta musicians, not only will you be assured an outstanding musical performance, you will also be supporting the local arts. While our rates are competitive with those of other DC-Metro area groups, a tax-deductible portion of your payment will be donated directly to the Washington Sinfonietta.

Sinfonietta Principal Cellist, Diliana Momtchilova, Performs Haydn's D Major Cello Concerto |

Cellist Diliana Momtchilova is a recent Juilliard graduate and seasoned soloist and chamber musician. Since her debut at the age of nine with the Sofia Chamber Orchestra, she has performed and recorded extensively in Europe and North America. Her honors include first prize in the Washington International Competition and winner of the Haydn D Major Cello Concerto Competition at the Juilliard School, among others. She is a member of Alaria, a piano-trio based ensemble in residence at Mannes College of Music Extension Division in New York City. She has been principal cellist with the Washington Sinfonietta since Fall 2008. |

Sinfonietta Partners with Local Charity; Donations Accepted at Family Holiday Concert |

The Sinfonietta is proud to partner with Charlie’s Place, a Washington, D.C.-based charity whose mission is to empower homeless individuals, for the concert. Donations for Charlie’s Place will be accepted at the concert, and ticket prices are discounted for concertgoers who bring items to donate. The performance will be held Saturday, December 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle NW, Washington, D.C. |

Japanese Pianist Miki Aoki appears regularly in prestigious venues and festivals across Europe with her chamber music partners. Her future concert engagements include a recital in Bad Pymont (Germany) and recitals across Europe with legendary violinist, Pierre Amoyal. |
